3sun Group Gains Full IRATA Membership

At the end of May, specialist provider of products and services to the global energy industry 3sun Group, was awarded full operator membership to IRATA, thereby certifying the Group’s personnel have the required procedures, skills and techniques to safely work at height. 3sun Group can now boast full IRATA membership until 2017 after its full assessment and verification by an independent third party auditor.

Beacon Offshore Forges Forward

At the end of May, Beacon Offshore announced a significant capital increase through a recent rights-issue and welcomed Seamico Securities Plc to its board of directors. Seamico will provide important corporate guidance to Beacon Offshore as it executes its expansion plans. The funds raised through the rights-issue will be used for vessel acquisitions and working capital.

Courses for Industry Enterprises held at Gridin's ITC

This month, Gridin’s Group held a "Safe Work at Height” seminar for national Lithuanian industrial companies at its International Training Center (ITC) in Klaipeda. The industrial projects firm invited specialists of partner and prospective companies to the seminar including process, safety and quality engineers, occupational safety and health specialists, construction managers and foremen.

Network Rail Appoints XEIAD as Examination Supplier

Network Rail has now appointed XEIAD as a preferred supplier for the provision of specialist civil engineering examinations requiring specialist access skills and competence, following the conclusion of the CEFA tendering process. XEIAD will provide its services directly to Network Rail on the London North West (LNW) route and the firm will also be able to offer services for non-CEFA related examinations on the London North East route (LNE).

Dron & Dickson Secures Electrical Equipment Contract

Stirling-based specialists in design, supply and maintenance of hazardous area electrical equipment, Dron & Dickson, has secured a new two-year contract with Rowan Drilling. The project builds on the company’s impressive start to 2014 as it expanded its reach into Brazil and the Middle East. Dron & Dickson will provide all lighting and electrical equipment to Rowan Drilling's offshore assets in the North Sea over the next 24 months.

Effective Offshore to deliver Rigger Competence

Effective Offshore has recently announced it can offer full training for Rigger Competence, levels 3 and 4. Effective Offshore is the only centre in Ireland able to deliver this approved programme; the 2-day course designed for all Lifting and Rigging Personnel who have progressed through Stages 1 and 2 or who have the practical experience in a Rigger role to undertake this competency course.

ISC Trolley to Feature at New Zipworld Site

The ISC Rope Access range of quality descender products continues to expand and gain momentum, with more products due for release across 2014. Last month the company confirmed that following the success of the ISC-manufactured Zip Trolleys at the original Zipworld site in Bethesda, Wales (at one mile long, it is Europe's longest zip line) the brand new ZipWorld Titan attraction in neighbouring Llechwedd will be running the ISC RP076 ZipSpeed Tandem Pulleys.

IRATA Bulletins Re-focus on Safety

The Industrial Rope Access Training Association (IRATA) has issued a flurry of Safety Bulletins this month which highlight the need for continued vigilance on site safety. SB 28 to 32, all posted on www.irata.org on March 3rd , include project issues such as dropped objects; avoiding strains at work and hazard identification.

CRAS Installs Mountain Sensors

Canadian Rope Access Specialists (CRAS) Inc. has again demonstrated its flair for high-risk projects last month after completing the installation of a land-movement monitoring station and prism sensors in a remote region of the Canadian Rockies which is notoriously susceptible to landslides.

ABSEN and CAPE Go Forward Together

Absen Rope Access Specialists Ltd. has recently announced they have been approved as the training provider for Cape Industrial Services plc. The established IRATA-approved company has offered training and re-validation courses to Cape staff since the end of 2013 and the new partnership will secure new opportunities to work with Cape both on and offshore.

Vertex Boss Advocates Smarter Working

Managing Director of Vertex Rope Access, Peter Walker, has indicated his company’s approach to smarter marketing in a recent interview. Talking in The Guardian newspaper last month, Walker explained how Vertex now takes a more direct approach to business by choosing to use a text-marketing system.

PRA Signs MOU in Nigeria

Protection Rigging Access Services (PRA) has created a joint venture with Nigerian-based offshore safety training and emergency response company, Blisston, for IRATA Training and Operations. The Mobile Offshore Unit (MOU) is the latest addition to services already supplied to the West African firm by PRA which include offshore survival and Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) plus the provision of fire fighting Instructors.

TRAKS Training moves on from the Shunt

The announcement from Petzl in 2012, withdrawing its support for the use of the Shunt as a rope access back-up device while towed by a cord, proved problematic for a number of companies and IRATA training centres across the UK.

Servtech’s African Milestone

Situated 80km off the coast of Angola in West Africa, the Tombua-Landana compliant piled tower is one of the largest offshore structures built. The platform alone weighs 76,000t and stands 1,554ft above the water supported by a 56,400t four-legged CPT; a massive structure pinned to the seafloor by 12 foundation piles.
