Petzl Updates the ASAP

In 2012, Petzl announced that its marquee product, the Shunt, was no longer suitable as a rope access back-up device and in doing so, created a market opportunity for the competition. A number of devices including the ISC Red and the Kong Back Up entered the ring but their performance has left many rope access engineers and technicians wanting more from these vital pieces of rope equipment.

Warning over Petzl Rope Clamps

Following incidents of failure of the rivet head on two Petzl CROLL rope clamps recently, the company has issued an advice statement on its website alerting all organisations currently using the Petzl CROLL ascender intensively for commercial operations.

Petzl Rope Access Challenges Dates Confirmed

This year’s Petzl Rope Trip is heading to the Swedish town of Uppsala and the confirmed dates are from May 29 to 31, 2014. The rope access challenge has been designed with some common goals in mind and brings together rope specialists from around the world for an event that is as much about camaraderie as it is about competition. The challenge welcomes rope technicians from a diverse spectrum of countries, who demonstrate a diverse spectrum of techniques. Ultimately, the Petzl Rope Trip has been set-up to maximize contact and communication between competing teams.

TRAKS Training moves on from the Shunt

The announcement from Petzl in 2012, withdrawing its support for the use of the Shunt as a rope access back-up device while towed by a cord, proved problematic for a number of companies and IRATA training centres across the UK.
