Due to the extreme conditions they operate in, offshore wind turbines are subject to severe problems with corrosion which if left untreated can cause major structural problems. ABFAD offer regular preservation programs to the offshore wind industry which offset these issues and allow allow the turbines to function at their peak level.
ABFAD's refurbishment at Scroby Sands involved blasting any and all corrosion on the monopile sections to SA2.5 standard and the application of a protective coating to provent further damage. The success of this project was aided by the use of ABFAD’s Patented Magnet System which allowed the company's rope access technicians to be fixed safely and securely in position, enabling all blasting and spraying work to be carried out in a timely manner and with greater precision. The Tyne and Wear firm is constatntly at the fore front of new indusrty developments and ABFAD's rigorously tested magnet system has already been employed on numerous projects. The system is endorsed by the TWI (The Welding Institute), which also tested the pull off strength of the magnets.
