The 110m high, double-cantilever Forth Rail Bridge was built in 1890 with over 50,000 tons of steel and some 3 million rivets! Railtrack concluded a full structural and maintenance assessment of the bridge in 1996 which led to ongoing refurbishment program that has continued to the present day.
Geckotech Solutions Ltd has been involved with the Forth Rail Bridge contract since 2008, supplying rope access and working at height services focused on the location and recoating of contact points – exposed areas left on the bridge during the original blasting phase - across the whole structure. Geckotech’s coating process is a 3-stage process: preparation using the MBX Bristle Blaster Tool, a glass flake application before a final topcoat of PU.
The refurbishment programme committed tens of thousands of man hours working on ropes in this challenging environment and seamless communication between contractor teams on the bridge was a key project deliverable which Geckotech was proud to facilitate.
Geckotech Solutions Ltd has a successful track record of commercial contract completions across many sectors: on and offshore oil & gas; marine, railway, construction, renewable energy & nuclear, residential & utilities and sports stadia sectors.

The rope access services Geckotech supplies employs techniques developed via the combination of climbing and caving skills: this allows the firm to place the right certified operative on to the access project to perform the necessary tasks.
Accessing hard-to-reach and high areas quickly with ropes and harnesses offers a less obtrusive and a far more cost-effective solution to the more ‘traditional’ methods of cherry pickers and scaffolding.
